Most wood & laminated (plywood) & even plastic stocks can be improved usually dramatically by stock fit, stock rebuilding & reshaping & a fine hand rubbed finish. Here is a Remington .308Win cal, with factory (LH) stock reshaped a little for aesthetics & fitted fancy Rosewood foretip, gripcap & Traditional buttpad; with hand rubbed oiled finish giving that unique hand built look only handwork can achieve.

Browning often treat their customers to nice wood. Here is a splendid example, a .243 Win cal rifle fitted with a stock of impressive American Claro walnut from the far West Coast region. Trouble was the lovely wood was hidden under the typical poor factory finish. The all steel, quality built, yet budget priced CZ .223 Rem cal rifle, shoots well with hl & good factory ammo but the owner is dissapointed with stock fit & finish. After contacting Don the stock was shaped up a bit better & fitted higher cheekpiece to give the 56mm Scope an essential perfect eye to scope alignment.

Here is a project that shows what custom work can achieve for a customer.  In the "Wild West" of America 1860's to 1890's the US Army & 7th Cavalry used Trapdoor Springfield rifles in their various skirmishes & battles with the native Americans, (Indians as we all know them), including the infamous "Custer's  Last Stand". Amongst these rifles were special models called "Officer's " Here an early Springfield in 45-60 cal normal issue rifle was brought to Don for "conversion" into an "Officer's" format. Required shortening barrel to around 24", fitting folding Globe foresite. Shortening stock & fitting ebony foretip & handgrip behind trigger & checkering fore & aft & finally hand rubbed oil finish. Next Fitting rear folding tang site. Colour finish action & lock, custom blue barrel & engrave lock/action/buttplate/ barrel band & triggerguard. Result a fine Officers model on original rifle, just like the old days. Lots of shooters use Laminated stocks today but are dissapointed by them being a poor fit & abysmal finish. Most shooter's do not realise their Laminated stock can be altered to suit them personally, & even given a decent standard of finish! Here is a typical fullbore rifle laminated stock reshaped, stipled fore & aft, fitted fancy walnut "hand supporting" gripcap & bolt load  recess cutaway & lastly more comfortable buttpad. Stock done up in a nice oil rubbed finish. Now looks good & fits the customer a whole lot better, hence greatly aiding accurate shooting.
